NS - Fort Anne : Historic Sites to Visit
The grassy Parade Square and impressive earthen ramparts of Fort Anne are mainly quiet today. But they have witnessed thousands of years of history, and the most recent four centuries were the most tumultuous. Inside the fort’s museum, housed inside a 1797 Officers’ Quarters, visitors can learn about this traditional homeland of the Mi’kmaq and how Europe’s powers battled for the coveted site for literally hundreds of years.
Outside, explore the fort’s defensive banks, ditches and bastions and, after dark, take a guided, Candlelit tour of the Garrison Graveyard. The candlelit tour will interest middle to older grade children.
